Established in 1952, we are the largest family-owned company of its type in the country. Today our team offers a wealth of knowledge and experience in the seed industry.
Peter joined the business in 1984 less than a year after leaving Brackenhurst Agricultural College where he studied Agricultural Merchanting for three years.
As Managing Director, Peter has overall responsibility for the strategic direction of the business, but takes particular interest in the areas of production and growing contracts.
Peter is also a cereals and pulses crop inspector.
Director and Company Secretary
Matthew joined the business in 2010. He holds a BA (Hons) degree in Economics and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA).
Since joining the company, Matthew has successfully completed the BASIS Foundation Award in Agronomy, the BASIS Seed Sellers qualification and has become a qualified crop inspector in cereals, pulses and oilseeds.
Matthew is responsible for transport, finance, regulatory compliance, IT and marketing.
Seed Sales Manager
With nearly 30 years in the industry, Alan has a lot of knowledge of the seed trade and has worked with most people currently involved in it. After finishing the Merchants Course at Berkshire College of Agriculture , he joined RHM Agriculture as a graduate entrant. On Dalgety’s acquisition of the business he moved to Norfolk.
In 1997 he joined Sharpe’s/Advanta as Arable Products Manager before returning to East Anglia for the first of two short stays with Grainseed Ltd. Before joining Dalton Seeds he spent some time out of the industry working for a charity, managing a resettlement programme for prisoners in HMP Blundeston, Suffolk.
Seed Accounts and Communications Manager
Monika has a BA (Hons) in International Tourism Management and has extensive experience in recruitment, HR, customer services and marketing.
Day to day Monika works with Alan on our seed sales desk.
She is responsible for communicating with our retail and wholesale customer base, as well as looking after the company’s social media profiles.
After graduation from Bangor University with a degree in World Agriculture, Ben started his career as a field assistant for a leading UK plant breeder. He subsequently moved into field trials and agronomy managing various variety and agrochemical trials across a broad range of agricultural crops.
Ben joined Dalton Seeds in early 2011 to assist the seed sales manager but more recently has taken over from Peter in managing production.
Ben is BASIS, FACTS and BETA trained and is also a licensed cereals and licensed official pulses crop inspector.
Phil has 25 years of experience in the agricultural industry working at Daltons.
He is experienced in all our warehouse departments – cleaning, treatment and despatch.
Day to day, Phil is responsible for all sections of our production and despatch process, but also co-ordinates out of season maintenance and machinery improvements.
Phil also works with Matthew on health and safety in our warehousing and is a qualified crop inspector in cereals and pulses.
Analyst in charge
Bryan joined Daltons in 1986 as the Analyst in Charge to Daltons’ licenced seed testing laboratory. As a fully qualified analyst and laboratory manager with more than 30 years’ experience in seed analysis, he is responsible for the day to day running of the seed testing laboratory and carries out all duties pertaining to seed quality control and statutory certification of all of Daltons’ seed production.
Additionally, he is also a licenced seed sampler and crop inspector, carrying out inspections on cereals, pulses and oilseeds.
Craig joined the company in 2008 having previously worked for TNT for 11 years. During his time with TNT he was three times awarded the award of ‘Operator of the Year’. Prior to working with TNT, Craig was employed by a large retail company holding various management roles.
Craig has over 15 years of experience in all arrears of transport from haulage and courier deliveries to logistics planning, storage stock control and international shipping requirements.
John has been employed at Daltons for the last 18 years. Since graduating from Shuttleworth Agricultural College, John has been involved in farming and the seed trade.
He is responsible for several important accounts for Daltons and has extensive knowledge of all varieties of cereals, rape and pulses. John advises growers on the most suitable varieties to suit their land type and rotation.
Mandy joined Daltons in 1980 as an Accounts Assistant and then took over the running of the accounts department in 1989.
Mandy is responsible for all aspects of the accounts office – i.e. sales/purchase ledgers, VAT, HMRC and wages.
Receptionist & Transport Assistant
Lisa joined the company in 2012. Previous employments have been in administration, since leaving college.
Lisa is front of house, answering calls and greeting guests. She also works alongside Craig, helping with transport.
